Apple Spice Dump Cake
Cooked in a Dutch oven, this apple spice dump cake is a quick and easy dessert option for the outdoors. The ingredients are easy to find at the grocery store and easy to transport to your campground. For the most flavor, used a spiced cake mix. You can also substitute vanilla cake mix, for a milder flavor.
When making the cake be careful to pick canned pie apples with no spice. If you use spiced apples, combined with the spice in the cake, it is too overpowering in flavor. The butterscotch chips offer a different flavor and texture to the cake and fruit.
When cooked there is a distinct fruit layer at the bottom and a fluffy cake layer on the top. This is similar to other popular camping apple desserts such as the apple cobbler, crumble, and buckle. Try serving this dump cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
The apple spice dump cake can be served alone or with a side of cream, ice cream, or custard.
Once cooked the dump cake has a soft fruit bottom topped with a light spice sponge style cake.
The apple and the cake actually form two distinct layers in this dessert.

How to make Cherry Cobbler with Cake Mix
For this recipe, start with a smaller square pan like an 8×8 pan or 9×9 pan. If you want to make a larger version, you can double the recipe and use a 9×13 pan instead. But for this recipe we are using a 9×9 pan.
Lay one can of Cherry Pie filling in the bottom of your ungreased 9×9 pan. Add a thick layer vanilla cake mix on top (roughly about 1/2″ thick). You can use more or less depending on taste–there is no right or wrong way to do this.
Once the cake mix is on top, use a stick of butter and slice the butter about 1/4″ slices and lay evenly across the top of the cake mix, spreading them out about 1/2″ apart. The butter will melt on top of the cake mix and create a nice, crispy cobbler crust!
Bake in the oven at 350 degrees for 30-45 minutes or until you have a beautiful golden brown crust on top.
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream if you want a real treat!

We all know fruit packs a powerful punch in the nutrition department. High fiber foods can aid in the fight against weight gain and help us lose excess weight. Apples are filling and researchers have found that when they are eaten regularly, apples contribute to weight loss.
Apples have a low calorie density, meaning they are mostly water. A medium apple has about an 86% water content. The high water content paired with the high fiber content helps you feel full. When you fell full, you are less likely to over eat, which helps you feel more confident. When you feel more confident, you make better choices, like eating apples. It is a wonderful, healthy cycle to fall into and can take you to weight control places you have never been.
Eating foods with a high fiber content may slow down the digestive process. This, in turn, helps you feel more full and eat less. It is best to eat your apples in their whole state. If you opt for apple juice, which can be high in sugar, it may not be as filling and will deliver more calories than you need. Bottom line, stick to whole foods in their natural state.

Acid reflux happens when food seeps back into the esophagus and causes pain and irritation. The resulting burning sensation is typically heartburn and/or an unpleasant sour-tasting fluid appearing in your throat. Not a fun way to relive a pizza and beer meal.
According to WebMD, adding fiber-rich foods like apples to your diet can help keep acid reflux under control. Eating your way to health is a much better solution than adding unnecessary prescription and over-the-counter anti-reflux medications to your system.
Eat more apples and enjoy an occasional pepperoni pizza with a brew and have a happy, heartburn free Saturday.
