The soup can be stored in one big batch or separated into 1 cup (240 ml) individual servings.

A day on the Chicken Soup Diet usually begins with an approved breakfast, which is the only meal on the diet that does not contain chicken soup. Approved breakfasts generally contain a mixture of dairy or whole grains and fruit as a means to get additional vitamins and minerals that the chicken soup does not provide. Examples of approved breakfasts include wheat bread, bran cereal, cottage cheese, or yogurt with dried or fresh fruit. Beverages that are permitted include nonfat milk, calcium-fortified orange juice, or water.

How to Lose Weight Fast on Chicken Soup Diet

The chicken soup diet consists of all meals, other than breakfast, consisting of chicken soup for seven days.

The chicken soup diet is a seven-day diet plan for weight loss. The main premise of the diet is that, other than breakfast, all meals consist of chicken soup. The diet provides a recipe for chicken soup and gives five different breakfast options. Several different versions of the chicken soup diet exist, and some recommend using the diet for longer than seven days, depending on the amount of weight you wish to lose.

Step 1

Eat a light breakfast to improve your chances of losing weight with the chicken soup diet. As breakfast is the only meal of the day that does not consist of chicken soup, it is the only opportunity to consume other foods. Possible healthy options include nonfat yogurt, fruit salad, whole grain cereal or oatmeal, nonfat milk, and fresh fruit juice.

Step 2

Eat small, frequent meals. By having frequent chicken soup snacks throughout the day, you will not allow yourself to get hungry. It keeps the metabolism busy burning calories and should reduce cravings and the urge to binge.

Step 3

Prepare the soup. Heat olive oil and water in a large soup pot. Add garlic, salt, pepper and celery to the pot. Cook on medium for 15 minutes, then add carrots, onions, chicken broth and lemon juice. Bring the pot to a boil, then turn down the heat and allow to simmer for five minutes. A full pot can create up to 26 one-cup servings.

How to Make Healthy Chicken Soup

Step One: First, heat the avocado oil or ghee (whichever you are using) in a large pot or dutch oven. Season the chicken with a generous sprinkle of salt and pepper on each side. Sear the chicken until browned on each side, around four to five minutes per side, and then remove from the pot and set aside. 

Step Two: Next, it’s time to build the flavor base of the soup. Add the diced onion, garlic, carrots, and celery to the pot and sauté for 2-3 minutes until everything is fragrant. 

Step Three: Once the veggies have sautéed a bit, add the chicken, broth, bay leaves, turmeric powder, salt, and thyme to the pot. Bring the soup to a boil and then reduce the heat to medium-low to simmer.

Step Four: Let the soup simmer for 20-25 minutes until the chicken is fully cooked through. Once the chicken is cooked, remove it from the soup and use two forks to shred the meat. 

Step Five: Once the chicken is shredded, add it back to the pot and stir until everything is well combined. Turn the heat to low and stir in the fresh dill and fresh lemon juice. Give the soup a taste and add more salt, pepper, or lemon juice to taste and then enjoy!

Recipe Variations

This healthy chicken soup is a great base for any variations you want to make! Here are a few ways to get creative with this soup recipe:

  • Add your favorite veggies. Baby spinach or tuscan kale would be great additions to this soup. Just stir the spinach or kale into the soup at the end and let it cook until wilted.
  • Add more carbohydrates. This is a naturally low-carb soup so adding more carbohydrates to the soup is a great option. Some great ideas are yellow potatoes or gluten-free noodles. If you want to bulk up the soup a bit more while still keeping it low-carb, cauliflower florets are a great option.
  • Make the soup creamier. If you are looking for a creamier soup base, you can try adding in a bit of full-fat coconut milk at the end of cooking for a creamier soup option.

Can You Freeze Chicken Soup?

Yes! This is a great recipe to prep in advance and then freeze for a quick healthy lunch or dinner later. To freeze the soup, add it to an airtight container or freezer safe storage bags. Freeze the soup for up to three months.

When you are ready to reheat and eat the soup, I recommend letting the soup thaw in the fridge first before reheating on the stovetop for the best results.

Aruna Mallya, Senior Dietitian, KMC Hospital, Mangaluru, suggests a bowl of high protein soup which can help in weight loss. She suggests avoiding a sweet corn soup or anything that has more calories – like potato soup which can lead to weight gain. Instead, nosh on cabbage soup, some clear broth or some multicolored vegetables like carrot, peas a chance because of antioxidants present in them which help in losing weight.

1. Clear soups

You can boil the vegetables that you like to have but no underground vegetables. First cut them into big chunks and then boil it properly, after that just puree it. This soup will have a lot of fibre content in it. For flavour, you can add some pepper or garlic.

2. Chicken soup

Chicken soup is nothing but low-fat chicken pieces which should be boiled properly. Only strained chicken broth should be taken. Also, add some garlic tadka with a pinch of salt.

3. Cabbage soup or multicoloured vegetable soup

Add carrot, peas, capsicum, also you can use palak. All the vegetables should be cooked in a pressure cooker properly and then they can be blended like a smoothie or paste. There is no need to add any thickening agent like cornflour. After it’s cooked properly, add a pinch of salt or tadka to the broth.

4. Green veggie soup

Green vegetables are rich in fiber, which helps in faster weight loss. Ghee, butter, palm oil, are to be used. Just a pinch of salt to the broth can be added as more of it will result in water retention. Additionally, tofu can be added to veg soup. People craving for flavour, can try Kimchi soup which can be loaded with vegetables, little red chili flakes, dark soy sauce, pepper.

WEIGHT LOSS SOUP INGREDIENTS

Everyone loves this healthy recipe filled with nutrient-rich ingredients.

  • Ground lean turkey (or shredded chicken) I personally like the ground turkey making this soup taste like a hearty chili. If you are going meat-free, leave out the ground turkey and you have a great veggie soup.
  • Onions

HOW DO YOU MAKE WEIGHT LOSS SOUP

Cook this healthy soup on the stovetop or it would be great made in a slow cooker. I am going to give it a try in the Instant Pot. Cooking it for 8 mins on high pressure.

In a large pot, brown ground turkey or cook chopped chicken. Once the meat protein is cooked, drain the fat if there is any.

Prepare your fresh vegetables by chopping the onion, mincing the garlic, seeding and chopping the bell peppers, and slicing the mushrooms. Add all the fresh vegetables to the browned chicken.

Stir the contents of the pot together and cook until the vegetables are soft, about 5 minutes.

Stir in the remaining ingredients, except cilantro and parsley. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes. 

A cup of green beans (fresh or frozen) and or a couple of cups of shredded cabbage would also be a nice addition.  If adding these veggies make sure you simmer the soup for 30 minutes or until the cabbage is softened.

Lastly, stir in cilantro and parsley. Since cilantro and parsley can lose their flavor quickly when boiled or simmered add them last. By adding fresh herbs like these last you will add freshness and color to your soup.

This soup is delicious and hardy. I really think that it is the best soup for weight loss. I definitely prefer the tomato juice base to beef broth, vegetable broth, or chicken broth base. Who would think a diet soup recipe could be so good!?
