Chicken With Doritos Breading

18

My mom never cooked with Doritos, so this idea of chicken with Doritos Breading is kind of new to me. I’d heard of corn flake fried chicken and the likes, but never dorito-chicken. So naturally I had to give it a shot.

I found an awesome recipe online that uses the Doritos Nacho Cheese variety (which are my favorite kind of Doritos, but that’s just me). I tried the recipe and loved it! You can make chicken tenders or chicken strips, your choice.

Dorito Chicken Tenders

These easy Dorito Chicken Tenders are going to be the hit of your next party (and put a huge smile on your kids’ faces)!

Tender juicy chicken breasts crusted in our favorite cheesy Doritos and baked to crispy perfection.

Serve them with ranch or blue cheese dressing for dipping!

If I indulge in one snack, I’m pretty much going guarantee it’s going to be Doritos!  They’re one of my all time favorite treats and while the Nacho Cheese is my favorite, I’ll eat ANY flavor!

My kids love chicken and I usually make a Crispy Baked Parmesan Chicken into perfect crispy chicken strips.

When I happen to run low on bread crumbs or corn flakes, I use pretty much any kind of cereal or cracker I happen to have in the pantry.  Anything from Ritz crackers to tortilla chips will make an awesome crust for chicken.

In this recipe, instead of the typical breading we have crusted these chicken tenders with crispy cheesy Doritos!

The result is a perfectly crispy crust loaded with flavor.  I personally prefer traditional Nacho Cheese flavored Doritos but I have made these with Cool Ranch and they were great too… any flavor of Doritos will work!

When crushing your chips, you’ll want them to be be crushed quite small but not made into a powder, you still want some texture.

We use chicken breasts and slice them into 3/4″  strips (you can also cube them if you’d prefer Doritos chicken nuggets), dip them into an egg wash and press them into the crushed tortilla chips.

If you’re doing a large batch of these, I would suggest working in batches and only putting some of the crushed Doritos in the bowl at a time.

If they end up too wet they won’t stick to the chicken well.

If you’d prefer, you can certainly use a whole chicken breast (which is great served with a taco salad) or even chicken thighs.

We serve it alongside a fresh green salad and roasted potatoes for a delicious meal!

To keep the chicken moist and juicy, be sure not to overcook them!  We serve these with either ranch or blue cheese for dipping!  They make the perfect party food!

Doritos Crusted Chicken

Doritos crusted chicken is as good as it sounds. It features deliciously tender chicken coated in your favorite flavored Doritos.

Dorito Chicken

When you pull these delicious chicken strips out of the oven, they will be lovely and golden on the outside and tender on the inside. They are always a huge hit whenever I make them for the family.

Without adjusting this recipe, you should be able to feed roughly four people. I do highly recommend that you make some side dishes to go with the chicken. Some delicious condiments will also work very nicely.

If you somehow end up with leftover chicken, then it is great reheated or as part of another meal. Personally, I love to serve the leftover chicken in a refreshing Caesar salad. The leftovers should last for three days in the refrigerator or three months in the freezer.

 Oven-Baked or Shallow Fry

In this recipe, I recommend oven baking the chicken as it is the easiest way to get these perfect. However, you can shallow fry the chicken instead.

If you decide to shallow fry the chicken, simply heat some oil in a frypan and cook the chicken in batches. I recommend cooking roughly four minutes per side. You can double-check the chicken is cooked by using a meat thermometer.

Oven Baked Dorito Crusted Chicken

You will need to be careful of the Dorito’s flavoring burning when you are pan-frying or oven baking the chicken. I recommend baking at 180°C (350°F) or pan-frying on medium heat. If it looks like the flavoring is burning, then lower the heat slightly.

Personally, I think both cooking methods will result in some delicious chicken. The healthier cooking method is to use the oven. However, I often find fried food is much tastier.

What to Serve with the Chicken

Below are some ideas on what you can serve with this delicious chicken. Feel free to share any of your ideas in the comments section at the bottom of this page.

I love to serve this chicken with some delicious homemade roast potatoes. I typically get the potatoes cooking before I put the chicken in the oven as the potatoes will take much longer to cook. For something, a little healthier, you can try making sweet potato fries to go with the chicken.

A classic green salad will work nicely as a side dish to the chicken. I love to do a classic combination of lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, and red onion. Alternatively, if you love the flavor of Doritos, I highly recommend trying the taco salad.

Dorito Chicken with Mayonnaise

Like any crumbed chicken, there is a ton of condiments that will work nicely with this dish. Personally, I love to serve the chicken with some salsa, mayonnaise, sour cream, or ranch dressing. You can get either of these at the supermarket or make them from scratch.
