Easy Baked Apple Slices

  • PREP TIME10 mins
  • COOK TIME5 mins
  • TOTAL TIME15 mins
  • SERVINGS2 servings

As you slice up the apples, check for their flavor. If they don’t taste good raw, believe me, they aren’t going to taste good cooked.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups peeled, sliced apples (use apples that cook up well, like Fuji or Jonagold)
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • Sprinkle of cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup

Method

  1. Season the apples:Put apple slices in a glass bowl. Sprinkle the apples with the sugar. Add a light sprinkle of cinnamon.
  2. Microwave the apples:Cover the bowl with plastic wrap. Be sure to vent the plastic wrap a bit, or poke some holes in it with a fork to let a bit of the steam escape.Microwave for 5 minutes on high power. Adjust the time for your microwave and how many apples you are doing. Ours has a powerful high setting, so 4 cups of apples only takes 5 minutes. If you use more apples, you will probably need to cook them a little longer. I suggest starting with 5 minutes and testing for doneness with a fork. If they need more cooking time, give them more.
  3. Add maple syrup and serve:When the apples are done, toss them, so the sugar coats the apple pieces. Add maple syrup to taste, about 1 tablespoon. To serve, add whipped cream on the top or vanilla ice cream on the side, if so desired.

Importance Of Dessert

  1. Fantastic Breakfast

According to a study done by researchers, dessert for breakfast is helpful if you want to lose weight. The team at Tel Aviv University’s Wolfson Medical Centre claims that dessert can help obese people lose weight. Eating dessert is healthy and obese people should add dessert to their diet when taking breakfast.

The study further tested 200 obese people who didn’t have diabetes. Some consumed 600 calories and a piece of cake while others ate 300 calories that had cheese, tuna, milk, and egg whites. Several months later, both teams were reported to have lost 30 pounds each. In the following four months, the team that had consumed the protein-rich diet had gained 22 pounds while the group that ate sweet dessert lost weight. The researchers said this happened because of the fewer cravings. The team that ate the cake were less hungry after breakfast. So, if you are seeking to have a healthy diet for breakfast, make sure you have dessert for breakfast. You will notice the changes.

2. Improves Your Mood

Have you ever chosen to eat chocolates or eat apple pie if you’re feeling low to improve your mood and feel happy? Well, most people do. And there is no shame in doing so. Most people will not decline to eat a pie or chocolates if they are moody. Dessert will give you more joy than eating boring food. That “feel good” factor is crucial to help you deal with other issues in your life. If you continuously deny yourself the chance to enjoy dessert, you may become resentful, and it is not healthy. Dessert will make you happy, and that’s why it is crucial always to eat some cake if you have the time. The best thing is to be satisfied when eating your favorite sweets.

3. Prevents a Stroke

According to a study done by some scholars, eating dark chocolate every day can reduce the chance of suffering from a stroke in the long-term. Well, if you’re a fan of chocolate, this will make you happy. The 10-year research done on over 30,000 Swedish men between ages 45 to 79 found that the people who consumed dark chocolate every day were less likely to get a stroke than the others. So, what are you waiting for? You can eat dark chocolate and eat it without guilt.

4. Enjoy Few Bites

Not many people will eat a whole cake by themselves. You will eat one slice and share the rest with your loved ones. And it is perfectly fine to do so. You don’t have to finish the entire cake. In most cases, you will eat a few bites so that you can satisfy your cravings. If you want to enjoy cake and remain healthy, you can control the portions you consume and watch your weight. Not only will you stay healthy but you will enjoy the cake. You won’t have time to feel guilty when eating dessert.

5. It Lowers Your Blood Pressure
A few bites of chocolate each day could decrease your risk of cardiovascular disease down the line. A 2011 Harvard study found that eating a small square of dark chocolate every day lowered blood pressure in all 1,106 participants. They believe this is because chocolate rich in cocoa (as found in unsweetened or dark chocolate) packs a high concentration of flavonoids, an antioxidant with huge anti-inflammatory and immune system benefits.

6. It Protects You From Strokes
It’s worth repeating: dark chocolate is really good for you. In a study of Swedish men aged 45 to 79, those who ate about one square were 17 percent less likely to suffer from a stroke than those who cut it out entirely.

7. It Will Satisfy Your Cravings
Focus on portion control, which means avoiding that generous slice of pie or devouring four or five cookies in one sitting. Put the box back in the pantry or freezer after you remove your select portion to keep you from reaching to grab more later on.

8. It Can Limit Your Sugar and Fat Intake
If you make your own goodies at home, you can substitute other ingredients for butter and oil, reduce the amount of sugar added, and even toss in healthy additions like nuts. Homemade desserts can “satisfy your dessert craving in healthier ways,” Rachel Johnson, PhD, chair of the American Heart Association’s (AHA) nutrition committee, told TIME.

9. It Will Inspire You To Be Active
SSince you know what you’re eating when you indulge, you can also make the conscious decision to work it off afterward. If you can’t live without dessert, one way to balance your sugar intake is to stay active during the day and maintain a diet low in other added sugars, suggests Johnson. Taking a stroll during lunch or hitting the gym after work can lead to a whole bundle of other health benefits, too.
