Fat Burning Energy Drinks are a new and better diet solution that offers quick and permanent results. What to look for in energy drinks

Caffeine Content

Caffeine is not only the main ingredient in energy drinks to boost your energy but is also a beneficial component for fat burning. 

Caffeine is a natural stimulant that can affect your metabolism by increasing it. A higher metabolic rate will increase the chances of fat burning. 

Any more than 100mg and I find it to be a bit overpowering and sometimes leaves me unable to concentrate.

Also, it’s worth keeping in mind that the FDA recommends a maximum of 400mg of caffeine per day for healthy adults. That’s caffeine from all sources – energy drinks, coffee, tea, sodas or elsewhere.

Caffeine can actually increase your metabolic rate by 3-11% and fat burning by 29% in lean people and 10% for those who are obese.

However, caffeine’s efficacy in fat burning goes down not only with age but also with tolerance. 

We build up tolerance against caffeine with daily consumption. That’s why if we first started out only needing a cup of coffee a day to keep us awake, by maybe a week or two we’ll be needing 2 or 3 cups for the same effect.

The same goes for our metabolic rate and caffeine tolerance. As we build up tolerance against caffeine, our metabolic rate tends to decrease, thus we would need more caffeine to keep our metabolic rate up.

Consuming too much caffeine may result in a caffeine overdose or other side effects.

So how can you overcome this issue?

My suggestion is to schedule your caffeine consumption, from energy drinks. For example, cut out caffeine for a week every second or third week. Hopefully, that will break whatever caffeine tolerance you’ve built up.

In short, energy drinks with higher caffeine content can potentially help you burn fat, however, remember to monitor your daily caffeine intake so as to not overdose.

Sugar Content

Sugar is also another main ingredient in many energy drinks that contributes to the energy you get.

Sugar is generally unhealthy and not only does it hinder your fat from burning but also can cause your weight to increase instead of decrease

When you’re on the path to fat burning and consuming sugar at the same time, the sugar you consume will be used as energy and your current fat deposit will remain intact.

Many energy drinks nowadays are sugar-free but do contain artificial sweeteners. Artificial sweeteners are zero calories and thus don’t cause weight gain however, your mental strength might be affected.

What I mean is, that you might think artificial sweeteners give you a “free pass” to indulge in sugary items which would otherwise result in weight gain.

In short, try to abstain from sugar completely, choose energy drinks that are sugar-free to help you on your fat burning journey. 


Most energy drinks have very similar contents – caffeine, b group vitamins and sugar. As much as different brands try to persuade you that they are special or different, the truth is, they are mostly very similar.

We’ve heard of the saying “beauty is pain”, “no pain no gain” and others that state we need to “sacrifice” something in return for a better something.

So we may think that in order to be healthier and burn off fat we may need to invest more in our diet.

That’s not the case here.

Why pay more than you need to?

If you know where to look, there are plenty of really good value energy drinks out there. Likewise, there are plenty of expensive energy drinks on the real and virtual shelves too.

To find out some good value options, hang around or skip ahead to the bottom of this post and I’ll share a few of my favorite energy drinks for burning fat with you.

Energy drinks and dieting

In order to burn fat, you might be on a certain diet. Energy drinks are still permissible during your dieting period.

Intermittent Fast

Intermittent fasting focuses on the timing of your food intake rather than what you eat. It’s therefore okay to have energy drinks (of any sort) during your eating window. 

While you’re in your fasting window, you are allowed to freely consume caffeine but you need to watch out for your sugar and calorie intake.

Therefore, you can still have your energy drinks while on an intermittent fast, just make sure to choose an energy drink that is sugar-free and low in calories to maintain a fasting state.

Keto Diet

If you’re on a keto diet, your goal is to consume fewer carbs and more fat as your body is burning the fat to produce energy.

Did you know that caffeine is actually beneficial for your keto journey? It could potentially increase plasma ketones in your body. 

The same goes for the keto diet, you are still able to enjoy your energy drinks that have lower carbs and sugar content. Excess carbs and sugar might throw your body out of the ketosis state.

Energy drinks and exercise

It’s a no-brainer that exercising is the best way to burn fat and for a healthier you. But, did you know that energy drinks are a good partner for exercise?

Energy drinks can help increase your physical performance giving you the energy to burn off fat. 

Also, taurine in energy drinks is beneficial for your exercise as it can fight muscle fatigue and calm your mind. 

Mental support is also important in your journey to burn off fat.

If you wish to pair energy drinks and exercise, try consuming them 30-45 minutes before you start to exercise, for optimum effectiveness. 

However, I do need to mention that energy drinks are not effective or meant to be used for hydration.

During or after exercise, you might want to stay clear of energy drinks if you feel you’ve lost a lot of fluid and drink water or electrolyte replacements instead.

But once you’re rehydrated, go ahead and grab another can of energy drink to increase your energy levels once again if you feel that you need one.

Yes, energy drinks can boost your metabolism.

This is due to the caffeine content in them. 

Energy drinks with higher caffeine content are more impactful on your metabolism.

Do energy drinks make you gain weight?

Yes, energy drinks can make you gain weight. 

It mostly depends on the sugar and calorie content of the energy drink in question and whether you’re physically active or not.

If you’re able to burn off the extra sugar and calories then it might not be a problem.

Does Red Bull make you gain weight?

Drinking Red Bull in moderation will probably not cause you to gain weight, especially if you are physically active.

However, Red Bull contains 110 calories and 27g of sugar per regular 8.4 fl. oz can, so this might make you gain weight if you don’t exercise and if the rest of your diet is not balanced and healthy.

Drink Red Bull in moderation, do regular exercise, make sure you have a healthy and balanced diet and you’ll be fine.

Do Monster energy drinks make you gain weight?

Similar to Red Bull, drinking Monster energy drink in moderation isn’t likely to cause you to gain weight if you do regular exercise and eat an otherwise healthy diet.

However, like Red Bull, if you are not active and if the rest of your diet is not healthy and balanced, the calories and sugar in Monster may eventually cause some weight gain.

Can energy drinks help you to burn fat?

Yes, energy drinks can help you burn fat. 

Once again, the caffeine content in energy drinks can boost your metabolism which in turn can help you burn fat.

But, it’s important to note that drinking energy drinks alone will not cause you to lose weight. You need to actually do some physical activity or exercise to get the benefit of the increased fat burning.

Energy drinks can also be your fat-burning partner by providing you the energy and mental alertness you need to burn off fat at the gym.

They can be a double-edged prong to firstly help you get your butt into the gym and then to increase the impact of any exercise that you do on burning fat once you’re in there.

So grab yourself an energy drink and do some exercise today!

Can Celsius Energy Drink help me to burn fat?

Yes, Celsius Energy Drink can help you burn fat. 

Let’s first look at the contents, 200-300mg of caffeine, zero sugar, and only 10 calories. 

The ingredients look pretty good to me.

I personally don’t love the high caffeine content, but it might be suitable for you especially if you have a higher caffeine tolerance.

As mentioned above, caffeine can increase metabolism and therefore help with fat burning.

Like energy drinks, coffee is a good source of caffeine.

Choose whichever you prefer and what works for you.

Coffee can help with fat burning, but make sure you’re not loading it up with sugar and cream because that’ll only backfire when you’re trying to burn fat and lose weight

Green Tea

Often associated with health benefits, green tea extends its benefits to fat-burning too.

This is because green tea contains high amounts of catechins, that can accelerate fat burning and boost your metabolism. 

A previous study proved that individuals who drank concentrated green tea over 12 weeks lost up to 7.7 pounds.

In no particular order, here are a few energy drinks that you may want to have a closer look at if your goal is to finally burn some of that stubborn fat.

Red Bull Total Zero

This is a healthier option than the super famous energy drink, regular Red Bull.

Red Bull Total Zero gives you the same taste and nice energy boost, but without the 27g of sugar and 110 calories that regular Red Bull contains. 

It contains 80mg of caffeine per 8.4 fl. oz can, a pretty moderate amount, especially if you’re at the lower end of the spectrum of caffeine tolerance, like me.

Maybe 80mg of caffeine is too mild for you. How about I triple that amount? Introducing Rockstar Zero Carb Energy Drink with 240mg of caffeine, zero sugar, and zero calories. 

The whopping high caffeine content isn’t my cup of tea, but it could be yours.

Of course, a higher caffeine content means a higher metabolic rate, but do exercise caution as you don’t want any side effects of excessive caffeine consumption which might include jitters and difficulty in sleep.

That might be a gentle reminder that it’s time to get back to your diet routine and weight loss efforts.

You might be worried that sticking to a strict diet or trying to lose weight means quitting energy drinks.

Don’t worry, you can still continue drinking low-calorie energy drinks like REIZE while losing weight.

Drinking caffeine increases your metabolic rate and resting energy expenditure.

While drinking caffeine alone may not be sufficient to cause you to lose weight, there is good evidence to show that drinking caffeine in combination with exercise does have very good effects on the rate at which you can lose weight.

Therefore, simply due to the fact that energy drinks contain caffeine, they can be beneficial for weight loss.

I want to warn you against falling for some of the marketing messages from certain energy drink brands. Some brands claim that their unique and special blend of ingredients aids weight loss.

If you look closely at the science you’ll find that the only evidence to support their claims relates to caffeine, which is present in all energy drinks. 

Proceed with caution whenever you see health claims that seem too good to be true.

With this in mind, here’s what the FDA recommends.

Some energy drinks contain a scary amount of sugar, while others contain little or none.

Sugar is really bad for you if you are trying to lose weight. Even if you’re not actively taking steps to lose weight you should be trying to keep your simple sugar intake to a minimum.

If you’re serious about losing weight you should look for some sugar-free options.

I know a common concern about sugar-free energy drinks is that they don’t taste as good, which may be true. But, believe me, after you switch for a couple of weeks you won’t even remember what the sugar-filled versions tasted like and you will probably come to prefer the sugar-free versions.


Why spend more money than you need to?

Everyone loves getting a good deal, and making healthy food choices is often more expensive than eating fast food. However, when it comes to energy drinks, there are some great options that are more affordable than you might expect.

If you want to lose weight, avoid the following


Sugar is a carbohydrate therefore, the body will naturally choose to burn sugar instead of fat as a source of energy. But guess what, if you don’t eat any carbs or sugars your body will have no choice but to burn fat for energy.

If you’re trying to lose weight, that’s a good thing.

Any sugar that you eat that isn’t burned, will be converted into fat. That fat is then deposited in various locations around your body. This is counter-productive if you’re trying to reduce weight. Healthline suggests that 25g-37.5g of sugar is the maximum amount that we should be consuming each day.

Therefore, I would recommend you avoid sugary foods and try to consume energy drinks with low or no sugar.

This is an important point because it’s far too easy to reach for a sugar-filled soda and consume way more sugar than you realize. This is why sugary drinks are so bad for your health – because it’s really easy to consume a scary amount of sugar in a very short space of time.

This will be key to ensuring that your dedication to your diet and goals are unimpeded.

Processed food

Refined carbohydrates, fats, sugars, and salt make up processed food. Besides that, processed food contains a lot of calories. None of that sounds like anything we should be consuming while trying to lose a few pounds.

Processed food is generally considered to be even worse than sugar. If you’re contemplating losing weight, you really should steer well clear of processed food due to the sheer amount of refined carbohydrates in it.

Does caffeine help in weight loss?

Yes, caffeine indeed helps with weight loss.

Caffeine has always been an ingredient used in both commercial weight loss supplements and pills.

Caffeine increases the rate of metabolism in your body which in turn helps to burn fat faster. Therefore, it is useful in providing a quick boost of energy to your body both physically and mentally.

Furthermore, this energy can be used while hitting the gym to burn all those calories/fats away!

But again, consuming caffeine alone is not likely to result in you losing weight. You need to combine caffeine with exercise to get results.

Is caffeine an appetite suppressant?

No, caffeine is not effective as an appetite suppressant. 

While some research has been conducted that shows people who drank caffeine consumed 10% less food at a breakfast buffet than those who did not drink caffeine, the same study also shows that the effects did not last throughout the day.

It also appears that consuming caffeine does not have any impact on someone’s ability to estimate their appetite.

The bottom line is that caffeine may result in you eating slightly less in a single meal, but it does not have lasting effects and should not be relied upon as an appetite suppressant.

Can you drink energy drinks while on a diet?

There are many energy drinks that contain a ridiculous amount of sugar. However, there are many energy drink brands or versions of energy drinks that are either completely sugar-free or ones that contain negligible amounts of sugar.

The latter will contain less added sugar and lower calories. Therefore, you could consume these low-cal energy drinks without worrying, while trying to lose weight.

However, don’t be tricked by some brands of energy drinks that claim to have some kind of secret or unique recipe that means their energy drinks magically cause you to lose weight.

If you look closely at the facts, you’ll always notice that the health claims that they make are because of the inclusion of caffeine in their list of ingredients.

That’s not unique to any particular brand of energy drink.

Can you lose weight by drinking Red Bull?

Please don’t even contemplate trying the Red Bull diet. I personally think that it’s very unhealthy for you to just drink any brand of energy drink. You also need a balanced diet to get other nutrients.

According to NZ Herald, a lady lost close to a total of 99lbs (45kg) in 8 months, while taking part in a Red Bull Diet. (Insane! or is it?)

What’s a Red Bull Diet?

Red Bull diet is when you only drink Red Bull. Each day, she drank around 10-14 cans of Red Bull without any breaks in between. This went on for weeks, up to eight months.

According to the lady, Red Bull helped to suppress her appetite, which helped her to lose weight. However, she said that it affected her sleep cycle and sleep in general.

I’m not surprised. Yikes, that’s a lot of caffeine!

The consequences?

A minor heart attack and ongoing health problem led her straight to the hospital. She was diagnosed by the doctors to be addicted to Red Bull and was experiencing severe withdrawals from it which included shaking, nausea and sweating.

The verdict.

Yes, you could apparently lose weight by drinking Red Bull.

But should you?

No, and a big NO at that!

An average person should only be consuming a maximum of 400mg of caffeine per day. That’s guidance direct from the FDA.

A can of 8.4 fl oz of Red Bull contains around 80mg of caffeine. Multiply it by 10-14 – that’s around 800-1,120mg of caffeine each and every day. That’s 2-3 times the recommended daily amount.

This is an extreme example, but it does showcase the potential dangers of abusing energy drinks.

There are many other alternatives out there to lose weight, which is tried and tested and more importantly, they don’t cause you health problems.

Monster energy drink weight loss

Regular Monster energy drink is unlikely to help you lose weight due to the high sugar content in my opinion.

Of course, if you run a caloric deficit and are careful to not consume simple sugars elsewhere in your diet, it’s theoretically possible to lose weight while drinking a daily can of Monster, but there are probably better ways to go about losing weight.

For starters, you could swap the regular Monster with a low-cal version from the Monster range. Monster is aware that not everyone wants a mountain of simple sugars in their energy drinks, so they have made some sugar-free versions for the health-conscious.

Best energy drinks for weight loss

Currently, there is no legitimate evidence that shows that energy drinks are unhealthy when it comes to losing weight. However, it must be noted that there isn’t any research that suggests that they help with weight loss either – besides the fact that they contain caffeine.

Hence, I will be recommending energy drinks based on the assumption that natural flavorings, artificial sweeteners, and carbonated water won’t hinder weight loss.

Can You Lose Weight With Energy Drinks?

Energy drinks are not a reliable strategy for losing weight — and overconsumption may be dangerous.

Energy drinks promise to “give you wings” and make other erroneous claims. They may give you a temporary boost of energy but they have little effect on metabolism. While there are plenty of sugar-free energy drinks, most are loaded with sugar which won’t do your waistline any favors.


Energy drinks are not a reliable strategy for losing weight — and overconsumption may be dangerous. A healthy diet and exercise are much more effective.

Know Your Energy Drinks

The cans lining the shelves of your local market are appealing, with their bright colors and impactful logos. Energy drinks are especially attractive to teens, one-third of whom consume them on a regular basis, according to the National Institutes of Health.

But what’s in those cans with names like “Monster” and “Red Bull”? It varies widely. One ingredient almost all have in common is caffeine. One 16-ounce can of Red Bull has 143 milligrams of caffeine, according to the USDA. That’s a little less than the amount in two cups of brewed coffee.

Some may have much more. The Agricultural Research Service (ARS) of the USDA tested 53 products for caffeine content and found that, for a daily serving (8 ounces), half had about as much caffeine as one to two cups of coffee. Eleven products had as much caffeine as two to four cups of coffee per serving, an additional 11 products had as much caffeine as four to six cups of coffee, and four products had as much caffeine per serving as seven to eight cups of coffee. Consumer Reports has published similar findings in a study of energy drinks.

That caffeine comes from a variety of sources, including more common coffee and tea, as well as botanical ingredients like guarana, yerba mate and kola nut. The effects of these substances are largely unstudied. B vitamins and the amino acid taurine are also common additions to energy drinks.

Many energy drinks are high in sugar. One can of Red Bull contains 50 grams of sugar. That’s 20 grams more sugar than you’d get from drinking the same amount of soda.

Energy Drinks and Weight Loss

Caffeine in an energy drink may marginally boost metabolism by less than 100 calories per day, according to Columbia University. But that’s only enough for you to burn about 1 pound of fat in a month.

If you doubled or tripled your intake, you could potentially burn more. According to a systematic review and meta-analysis published in ​Critical Reviews in Food Science and Nutrition​ in October 2018, the effect of caffeine on weight is dose-dependent. But multiple energy drinks in a day can have serious consequences for your health and well-being.

You would reap the metabolic rewards only if you drank black coffee, tea or another unsweetened caffeinated drink, because the amount of added sugars in many energy drinks cancels out any modest increase in metabolism.

The average energy drink has 200 calories per can, almost entirely from sugar. Sugar-sweetened beverages are strongly associated with being overweight and obesity, reports the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and are one of the worst things for your waistline.

What about sugar-free energy drinks sweetened with sugar substitutes? The jury is still out on whether sugar substitutes help reduce calorie intake and lead to weight loss.

A systematic review and meta-analysis in ​The BMJ​ in January 2019 showed no significant differences in weight between study participants who drank sugar-sweetened beverages and those who drank beverages with non-caloric sweeteners. However, studies so far have been small and more research is needed.

And what about the other ingredients in energy drinks? Taurine may help with weight reduction, but so far most studies have been done on animals. B vitamins are important to metabolism, but they do not cause weight loss. In fact, according to an article in ​World Journal of Diabetes​ in February 2014, excess intake of B vitamins have been linked with obesity and diabetes.

Not Worth the Risk

Any benefits of energy drinks are vastly outweighed by the potential side effects. NIH reports that large amounts of caffeine can damage the heart and blood vessels, causing heart rhythm disturbances and increased heart rate and blood pressure.

Anxiety, sleep problems, digestive issues and dehydration are also linked with excessive caffeine intake. It’s difficult to know how much caffeine is in your energy drink of choice because manufacturers are not required to list that information on the label, according to Consumer Reports.
