Simple carbohydrates, such as donuts and other sugary goodies, are high in calories but poor in nutrients, so it’s better to avoid them in the mornings because they’ll make you feel drained and peckish before lunch. She emphasizes the value of eating a nutritious breakfast as the best method to jump-start your metabolism.
Aside from fried, sugary, and fatty foods, there are a few other things to think about, like refined and processed grains, like those in white bread or cereal, which have less fiber than whole-grain alternatives. As a result, the body digests them more quickly, which results in a sudden surge in blood sugar and a collapse later in the day, according to Hunter. This also applies to “low calorie” foods, which are frequently “laden with added sugars that can collapse your energy levels.”
