I’m constantly looking for ways to make eating well at home more practical. One thing I’ve learned about myself is that I’m probably not going to undertake something if it’s complicated. I adore single-serving yogurts for this reason. They are quite easy to cook and make a great breakfast or snack to grab and go. They are flavorful, loaded with probiotics, protein, and healthy fats.

Why should I make my own yogurt with fruit on the bottom?

Unfortunately, I don’t enjoy a lot of things about single serving yogurts. The garbage they make is abhorrent to me. Even though we try to recycle any empty yogurt containers that we can, we still generate a lot more trash than I am happy with. I do not like the price either.

If you discover a great deal, you might be able to get organic yogurt for $1 per single-serving container (which averages around 6 ounces). If I make my own yogurt from organic milk, I can get a gallon for about $5. The cost of a gallon at single serving prices is $21. That represents a significant savings given the quantity of yogurt we consume.

What kind of container works best for this yogurt with fruit?

We use jelly jars that are four and eight ounces in size, depending on how large we want the portions to be. They are constructed of recyclable glass and can hold just the right amount of food. You can usually get a set of 12 jars with lids for a reasonable price at the hardware, grocery, or supermarket in your town.

What fruit should I use?

Making a lightly-sweet fruit-chia syrup mixture (similar to a fruit compote) for the fruit on the bottom not only makes the dish appear beautiful in the jars, but it also provides a ton of taste, antioxidants, and omega-3 fatty acids. How did we succeed?

  • Apples and cinnamon

The recipe that follows can be modified to suit your tastes and will work with the majority of fruits. I like mine on the less sweet end of things to let the taste of fruit really shine, so if you’re into sweeter yogurts, I’d up the sugar content.

What kind of yogurt do I need?

I just topped it with plain yogurt, although homemade coconut yogurt also works well in this situation. Yogurt may be easily and affordably made at home.

But you may still follow the same steps to get the large tubs of yogurt you desire if you don’t want to manufacture your own. You will still be spending less than if you bought the single-serving versions.

When making your own flavored yogurt, you can use real fruit in place of high fructose corn syrup or other unknown additives because the ingredients in this recipe are far simpler than those in store-bought yogurt.

I’ve never been a big fan of yogurt, especially the sugary, artificially colored ones. But I did need to buy a carton of Greek yogurt lately for some baking. I chose to mix some fresh fruit into the leftovers and give it to my boys as a mid-afternoon snack.

After sampling this dish, we were immediately persuaded that plain yogurt would never taste the same again.


All you need are three simple ingredients to make this homemade fruit yogurt:

  • Berries, strawberries or blueberries
  • Plain Greek yogurt
  • Honey or maple syrup, optional

You could always swap the berries for another fruit that’s easy to mash like sliced peaches or ripe mango. I don’t recommend bananas since they are likely to brown when stored in the ridge and make this snack a little unappealing.


Got your ingredients? Good! Let’s assemble. 

  1. Mash the berries in a large bowl. 
  2. Add the yogurt and stir to combine. 
  3. Taste test for sweetness, and add honey or maple syrup if needed. Stir once more. 
  4. Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 1 week. 

So far, our favorite way to enjoy it has been by adding fresh fruit, but you could also top the yogurt with natural almond butter, granola, cereal, or nuts. 

If you want to turn this into individual yogurt cups, instead of mixing everything in one large bowl, add the mashed fruit to the bottom of an 8-ounce jar, top with yogurt, and seal. When ready to serve, drizzle with the honey, and enjoy!

  1. In a bowl mash berries with a fork to release their natural juice and sweetness. Add in greek yogurt and stir until combine. Test for sweetness and add in a drizzle of honey or maple syrup to your desired sweetness. Stir and refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 1 week.

  • Seasonal fruits

  • Mango / strawberry pulp / fruit pulp of your choice
  • Sugar

How to Make Fruit Yogurt


Bring milk to a boil and allow it to cool to a temperature of 37-40⁰C.


Wash the fruits, peel them , chop them into small bits and big chunks.


Add the fruit pulp, fruit bits, fruit chunks and chopped dry fruits to the milk cooled to the desired temperature.


Add 2 spoons of the yoghurt culture. Stir well.


Cover and incubate at a warm place.


Keep undisturbed for a 6-8 hours.


Top the set yoghurt with fruits, fruit sauce, dry fruits.


Chill and serve cool.

The colorful fruits provide healthy amounts of vitamin C and antioxidants, while the yogurt increases the calcium and protein content. Unlike presweetened yogurts, which are overly sweet, we utilize raw honey (reminder: never feed honey to infants under age 1).

1 quart plain, nonfat Greek yogurt
1 cup blueberries, rinsed
1 cup fresh strawberries, rinsed and sliced
1 cup jarred cherries
4 teaspoons honey
1 cup of your favorite homemade or store-bought granola


  1. Layer ½ cup of yogurt in the bottom of the parfait glass. Top with ¼ cup blueberries, ¼ cup strawberries, ⅛ cup granola and ½ teaspoon of honey.
  2. Add a second layer of ½ cup yogurt, topped with ¼ cup jarred cherries, another ⅛ cup granola, and ½ teaspoon of honey. Repeat for the remaining 2 parfaits.

How to Make a Fruit and Yogurt Smoothie

Smoothies with fruit and yogurt are a delightful and healthful option for breakfast or an afternoon snack. Once you’ve mastered getting the ideal fruit-to-yogurt ratio, experiment with including various fruits and sugars. The smoothie recipes in this article include four varieties of fruit and yogurt: strawberry banana, triple berry, tropical, and cinnamon spice.

Strawberry Banana

  1. 1Chop the fruit. For this smoothie you need a total of 1 cup of fruit. Slice a banana and chop strawberries so that you have a pile of fruit that adds up to a cup.
    • If you like a strong banana flavor with a hint of strawberries, plan on using more banana; if you prefer a lighter smoothie with a little banana flavor, go heavier on the strawberries instead.
    • You can freeze the strawberries and banana beforehand for an icier smoothie.
  2. 2Choose a sweetener. Strawberries and bananas may be sweet enough for you by themselves, but some people like a little extra sweetness. You can add a teaspoon of regular sugar or go with honey or agave nectar for a delicious flavor.

Fruit and yogurt are the main components of the simplest smoothie. Which fruit is it? You have the choice. Which variety of yogurt? Again, it’s up to you. I’ll offer as many recommendations as my limited brain capacity will allow because I am well-versed in quick breakfasts that aren’t overly complicated. The rest is up to you as you design your masterpiece.

You’ll have the necessary tools and more confidence in your smoothie-making abilities. As if you needed assurance regarding smoothies. However, I am aware that a glass of this blended beverage has helped me get through numerous hectic mornings. Although many people believe that breakfast is the most significant meal of the day, we frequently lack the time to prepare a full breakfast. Since that’s usually the case for me, I always have the ingredients on hand to prepare these fruit and yogurt smoothies.

What You Will Need to Make Fruit and Yogurt Smoothies

You’ll need fruit, yogurt, and a drink of some kind, as I’m sure you can guess. You’ll need a fresh fruit particularly. I’ve selected this HUGE Tommy Atkins mango. You need frozen fruit to chill the smoothie so it isn’t warm and disgusting.

I always have a bag of the sour guava frozen fruit pulp from Goya on hand. Yogurt is also required, but I’ll give you some suggestions for experimenting with this ingredient later in the article. Finally, you’ll need a liquid of some kind to start the blender. This component may be nectar, juice, or water.

Here Are Other Fruit Options

My favorite fresh fruit is a huge mango, as I already indicated. I need at least 2 cups of fresh fruit because this dish serves 4. Here are some suggestions to help you decide which fruit to use:

  • Berries (the sweeter the better)
  • Banana
  • Guava or Passion Fruit
  • Peaches 
  • Papaya
  • Melons (except watermelon)

I wouldn’t put watermelon in the melon option because it is so watery and doesn’t have a strong flavor. For the same reason, I steer clear of both apples and pears. On the other end of the scale, citrus fruits with excessive flavor and acidity, such as oranges, lemons, limes, and grapefruit, should also be avoided in this dish.

Prepare Your Fresh Fruit

Cool Down the Fruit and Yogurt Smoothie with Frozen Pulp

Fruit and yogurt smoothies are chilly and slightly slushy. There’s absolutely nothing that’s worse than sipping a warm smoothie. To cool things down, more fruit is added by way of a frozen fruit pulp. If this product isn’t easily found in your regular grocery store, take a jaunt to your local Hispanic, African, or Asian market. Because it’s a popular food item in those cuisines, you’re likely to find it the frozen food sections of their stores.

You can also use frozen fruits such as berries or peaches. Whole strawberries or sliced peaches are hard, so allow them to thaw on the countertop for 10 minutes prior to blending them. You can add blueberries or raspberries directly to the blender from the freezer because they’re so small.

Here Are Other Yogurt Options

Since there are countless varieties of yogurt available, I’ll include some alternatives to the plain Greek yogurt I’m using in this recipe. Yogurt can be added with any desired fat content, including full-fat or low-fat varieties.

If you have no dietary restrictions you can use:

  • skyr (plain or a complimentary flavor like vanilla or fruit)
  • kefir (plain or a complimentary flavor like vanilla or fruit)
  • regular yogurt (plain or a complimentary flavor like vanilla or fruit)

Vegan alternatives to regular yogurt are:

  • soy milk yogurt (plain or flavored)
  • almond milk yogurt (plain or flavored)
  • coconut milk yogurt (plain or flavored)

Once you have decided on the yogurt you’re going to blend into your fruit and yogurt smoothie, add it to the blender with the fruits. 

Sweetening Options for Your Fruit and Yogurt Smoothies

The guava fruit pulp I used for my fruit and yogurt smoothie, made it super tart. While I love a bit of tartness, it, plus the yogurt, made it borderline inedible. To counteract tartness in your smoothie, here are some optional sweeteners to blend in:

  • honey
  • maple syrup
  • agave syrup
  • condensed milk (for non-vegan diets)
  • condensed coconut milk (vegan option) 

Add any sweetener to the blender with the rest of the ingredients.

Add a Liquid to the Fruit and Yogurt

You must add a cup of liquid to the ingredients in the blender to get things moving. This can be done with anything from water to milk to a complementary juice or nectar.

Blend the items for 30 seconds on high after adding the liquid. Scrape the edges of the blender after stopping it. Add 1/2 cup more liquid if the fruit and yogurt smoothie feels too thick and isn’t moving around well. For a final time, blend at high speed for 30 to 60 seconds.
