How Much Ground Beef For Tacos For 30 People?

When preparing a taco bar for a large group, it’s a good idea to estimate how much meat you’ll need. You don’t want to run out of food before all of your guests have been fed.

For the average person, four ounces of meat filling per taco shell is a good rule of thumb. This works out to around eight tablespoons each taco, or about half a cup.

It’s also a good idea to think about how much ground beef you’ll need by imagining how hungry your guests will be. If you’re cooking for teenage boys, increase the serving size to 5 oz per person. If you serve burritos, quesadillas, rice, and refried beans alongside the tacos, your guests will likely only eat one taco per person.

Walking Tacos For 50

You’ll need roughly 50 walking tacos (depending on how many servings your crowd will consume). Allow for two servings per person if your visitors are big eaters.) I treble the recipe and cook it ahead of time. This recipe can be prepared a few days ahead of time and either refrigerated or frozen for later use.

3 pounds of beef, 3 chopped onions, and 9 crushed garlic cloves, browned Place one can of tomatoes, one can of refried beans, one pound of meat, and the spices in each of three freezer bags. To mix the ingredients, seal the bag and squish it a little. Refrigerate the bags until the morning of your celebration. Fill a large crockpot halfway with the contents of the bags. Three bags will fit in my crockpot. Before serving, cook on low for many hours.

Walking Tacos For 100

I create 6 freezer bags of the walking taco mixture for 100 servings. This is usually the amount I spend on our annual celebration. Having this quantity on hand means we’ll be ready for any unexpected visitors. The finest aspect is that each bag may be opened and used individually as needed. Any additional bags you don’t use freeze beautifully.

Fritos Corn Chips are available in individual bags or in boxes of 50 at SAM’s Wholesale Club. For a box of 50 corn chip bags, around three bags of the walking taco mixture are required.

1 Pound Of Beef Equals How Many Tacos?

If you’re planning a taco bar for a wedding reception, birthday, graduation, fundraiser, or other event and want to know how much to buy and prepare, you may use this calculator to get an estimate of how much you’ll need. After entering the amount of guests you’ll be serving, the program will generate a list of commonly purchased ingredients that you can use as a checklist to prepare for your event. So, if you need to know how many tacos to make for a group of 25, 50, 100, or more, use the Taco Bar Calculator.

Taco bars are a fun and simple way to serve a large crowd. Because all of the ingredients are provided buffet-style, there’s no need to worry about making everyone’s plates or serving everyone at the same time. You’ll only have to worry about keeping a few ingredients warm because the remainder of the ingredients are served chilled or at room temperature. Guests have the option of selecting their own fillings, which means they are less likely to be disappointed. You can serve simple components or go all out with a unique selection of gourmet fillings.

  • Although the standard is three tacos per person, caterers calculate two tacos per person for taco bars because people prefer to be liberal when filling their own tacos.
  • 12 ounces of cooked ground beef equals one pound (16 ounces) of 80/20 raw ground beef, pan browned and drained.
  • How much taco meat should each person have?
  • The average protein serving size per guest is 4 ounces. The “conservative” amount of ground beef in a typical taco is 2.5 ounces, but we estimate 2 ounces of beef for the average taco due to the additional taco ingredients.
  • The most popular fillings are cheese, onions, and tomatoes (and tend to run out first).
  • Ingredients come in a variety of weights per volume. An ounce (2 TBSP) of black beans, for example, weighs 30.1 grams, while an ounce (2 TBSP) of lettuce weighs 18 grams. This calculator determines serving size per ounce or TBSP by multiplying an ingredient’s actual weight by its volume.
  • Milder sauces are more popular than those with a higher heat level. Consider using just moderate or medium-heat sauces, with spicy sauce available for individuals who prefer it hot.
  • By portioning portions on paper or plastic hot dog trays, you may reduce waste. Guests will be less likely to overfill their tacos on their second or third trip back to the taco bar if they consume one taco at a time.

Food Layout Suggestions

  • Use slow cookers or crockpots to maintain meals at 140 degrees or above for products that need to stay warm. Triple cookers are good for conserving space and maintaining meat, rice, and beans at the proper temperature.
  • Place dishes on ice trays for food that needs to stay cold.
  • Inflatable serving bars are available on Amazon for this purpose.
  • Instead of spoons, mini-tongs should be provided for each meal item.
  • These can be found at your local dollar store or on Amazon.
  • Serve semi-liquid toppings in condiment squeeze bottles, such as sour cream or salsas.
  • It will be more convenient for your visitors and, hopefully, less messy.
  • For those watching their calories, draining and then rinsing 80/20 ground beef equals the calories/fat of 90/10 to 95/5 ground beef left undrained.
  • Gourmet fillings are a great way to up the ante on your taco bar.
  • However, because the quantity required is dependent on individual preferences, determining the amount to have on hand is difficult.
  • The items used for a taco bar are versatile and may be used in a variety of other cuisines (if they were kept at proper temps). You may cook a variety of other dinners if you have a lot of leftovers. You can cook chili with leftover ground beef if you have a lot of it. You can make spaghetti sauce using a lot of veggies (tomatoes, onions) but not a lot of ground beef.
  • To keep leftover shredded cheese, mix it lightly with cornstarch before storing it in the fridge or freezer.

The calculator will calculate the number of things required based on conventional serving sizes for the main course. However, because your guests’ tastes in toppings and appetites might vary widely, you may end up with too much of one ingredient and not enough of another. If you’re serving other main courses, you may need to change the numbers.

Reduce the servings proportionately if your taco bar is not the only food item (if there are other dishes or side dishes), or if you are hosting an open house where people are also visiting other gatherings (as is common at graduations).

Remember that these are only suggestions for serving sizes and ingredients.

As needed, make changes.

Don’t forget to bring paper plates, cups, and beverages. We also had some tortilla chips on hand in case we ran out of taco shells and needed to serve leftover meat and toppings. Some people like to make a taco plate in the form of nachos.

You can prepare and season the beef ahead of time, then keep it warm in a slow cooker. A large slow cooker can hold roughly 10 pounds of cooked meat. Heat the shells and set out the toppings when it’s almost time to eat.

I have a huge frying pan that can hold around 5 pounds of taco meat at a time.

Depending on your budget, you can also add toppings like sliced onions and guacamole. This is a simple dish to prepare because most of the ingredients are already prepared and the meat can be kept warm in the slow cooker while you do other things.

🔪 STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Start with good-quality raw ground beef. I like to use organic 93% lean 7 % fat.

  1. Place the hamburger in a medium-sized pan. Using a Meat Chopper, 5 Curve Blades tool, break the hamburger meat apart into small pieces. Place the pan on a burner set to medium heat. As the hamburger cooks, stir with the meat chopper every few minutes to help break up the hamburger.

2. When the meat is browned with no pink inside, remove the pan from the heat. Prop the pan slightly so the grease will drain to one side. Pull the brown beef to one side of the pan.

With a large spoon, remove the majority of the grease.

3. Next, place a few pieces of paper towel in the pan to absorb any grease left. Throw the paper towel out and repeat if necessary.

4. Sprinkle in 3 tablespoons of homemade taco seasoning mix and 1/3 cup of water. Stir to coat the meat with the seasoning.

5. Simmer the meat and seasoning on low heat for 5 minutes. Stir every few minutes to help eliminate the meat sticking to the pan.

✔️ COOKING TACO MEAT TIP
