HOW TO MAKE BANANA CHIPS
The oven must first be heated before the operation can begin. It should be set to 225°F (105° C).

- Bananas – you will want to use ripe bananas that are still firm. If they are too ripe, they will be mushy and you won’t be able to slice them very well. If your bananas aren’t ripe enough, the banana chips won’t be sweet.
- Lemon Juice – if you are using the oven or dehydrator method, you will need lemon juice to prevent the banana slices from turning brown and shriveling during the drying process. The slices will still brown some, but using lemon juice really helps with this.
How to Make Banana Chips
There are three different ways to make banana chips are home. I’m going to teach you the different ways depending on what equipment you have at home.
This method takes the longest, but is very hands off. There are a lot of other oven methods out there, but I have found this method produces the crunchiest banana chip!
- Slice. Bananas should first be sliced as thinly as possible and placed in a bowl. Less than 1/4 inch thick is my goal. If you are using a knife and just winging it, this is difficult to perform. You can use a mandolin to make sure your slices are all consistent if your bananas are sufficiently firm.
- Lemon juice is added after the bananas are submerged in water. Make sure the bananas are all exposed to the lemon juice combination by giving them a gentle swirl. Give them a few minutes to sit.
- Slices of banana should be carefully removed from the bowl and placed on a paper towel to absorb any excess moisture.
- Place the banana slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them apart.
- Select the lowest possible setting for your oven. My banana chips are baked at 170 degrees F. They must bake for around five hours. Remove bananas and turn them over after five hours so the bottom crisps up.
- Reposition the tray into the warm oven, close the door, and leave them there all night.
- Your banana chips will be really crispy by morning!
