To the uninitiated, it may seem like dessert is easy to fill the stomach of a tickled taste bud with. But just because some things look like they should be good, doesn’t mean they are. This lesson was recently learned when I had to learn how to make strawberry crunch from scratch.

This strawberry crunch topping recipe does not use pudding mix or flour, but instead golden Oreos. Strawberry crunch topping is a fun reddish-pink color and adds a lovely pop of color and flavor to any of your desserts. I used mine on Strawberry Cheesecake Hot Cocoa Bombs.
Strawberry Crunch Topping
Strawberry Crunch Topping is so easy to make and can be used in a variety of ways. Add it as a topping to your ice cream, on top blondies, frosted sugar cookies, cakes, cupcakes, and even a pie.
How to Store Strawberry Crunch Topping
Store strawberry crunch topping for 2-3 months in your pantry in an airtight container or 4-6 months in the fridge or freezer in an airtight container.
However, I would recommend using the crumbles within a week or so for maximum freshness.
How to Make Strawberry Crunch Topping
You are going to need
- 22 Golden Oreos
- 1 package of Strawberry Jello, 3 oz box
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup of melted butter
Here is how to make your Strawberry Crunch Topping
Preheat oven to 350.
Melt your butter in the microwave until fully melted.
Place your golden Oreos into a Ziploc bag and use a rolling pin to crush them. You can also use a food processor or meat mallet, smooth side. You want them to be in small crumbles.
Once your Oreos are crushed place them into a bowl.
Add the strawberry Jello over the oreo crumbles and mix to combine.
Updated Tip: Since I have had a couple of people say their mix was watery I would suggest adding half the melted butter or 1/4 cup of melted butter to the oreo crumble and mix it together. I use 1/2 cup of melted butter and have no issues. So my suggestion is to add half the butter and see how it looks. If it’s not looking wet enough (like my pics below) then add more melted butter.
Pour the melted butter over the Jello and Oreo mixture and mix well.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Place the strawberry crumble onto the baking sheet and smooth it into an even layer.
Bake for 7-8 minutes.
Remove from the oven and let it cool.
Break the crumble into chunks and place it back into a Ziploc bag. Crush it up again.
Store in an airtight container for up to several days in the fridge.
Strawberry Shortcake Crumble Topping Tips & Tricks
I have had 2 people email saying their crumble was a soupy mess. I have made this recipe a bunch of times and have never had this issue. My suggestion would be to add more crushed Oreos to thicken it up, but please make sure to follow the recipe instructions. I have step-by-step instructions with pictures posted so you can see my process. The Oreo and Jello mix should combine together and the butter should turn it into a crumble. The mix will melt some when baked and will be “flat and melted” onto the parchment paper, but it should peel right off of the parchment paper when cooled. You then crumble it again and store it in the fridge.

This easy strawberry shortcake crumb topping is a no-bake recipe, and only requires three ingredients! It couldn’t be easier to make, and you’ll be making it so often!

WHAT ARE STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE CRUMBS MADE OF?
- freeze-dried strawberries – these are the secret ingredient! They add tons of strawberry flavor and color without adding too much moisture. That way our strawberry crunch topping is the perfect texture!
- Golden Oreos – I use a full 14-ounce package of Golden Oreos (or another similar vanilla sandwich cookie). It ends up being about 36 cookies.
- salted butter – we’ll bring this mixture together with some melted butter. Using salted butter helps to bring out the flavors in our strawberry crunch topping, but if you only have unsalted just add a few pinches of salt to taste.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED
I use a food processor to make this no bake strawberry crunch topping, and it was so easy! Or if you don’t have a food processor, you can still make this strawberry crunch topping super easy by crushing the strawberries and cookies with a gallon-size freezer bag and a rolling pin.
HOW DO YOU MAKE STRAWBERRY CRUMBLE WITH GOLDEN OREOS?
It’s so easy! Just toss your freeze-dried strawberries and cookies into your food processor and pulse once or twice. Add in your melted butter and pulse again until the mixture reaches the consistency you like! If you don’t have a food processor, just place the strawberries and cookies in a gallon-size freezer bag and use a rolling pin to crush them into crumbs. Then transfer them both to a bowl and stir in your melted butter. That’s it

TIPS AND F.A.Q.
Can I make this a vegan strawberry shortcake crumble?
You sure can! Since Golden Oreos are considered by many in the vegan community to be vegan, you can just swap out the butter in this recipe for vegan butter and you’re good to go!Why is it called shortcake?
Shortcake refers to a cake or biscuit that is crumbly or crispy. The “short” part of the name refers to the crisp texture, which is usually achieved by adding butter or another type of fat. In this strawberry shortcake crumb topping, we’re not using a traditional shortcake, but it’s more inspired by the beloved Good Humor Strawberry Shortcake frozen treat!
