How to Make Homemade Ground Beef Pizza

Friday nights are usually pizza night. Even though we have a great variety of pizza places near us, I like to toss things up a bit and make homemade pizzas at home. There are so many different ways you can make your own pizza!

I had ground beef out and no clue what to make. I decided to try to make a spin off of my steak, pepper and cheese sandwiches which I need to post about. This pizza was absolutely amazing. My kids won’t touch it due to the peppers and onions, so they got a boring pepperoni pizza.

I made a pizza crust from scratch but you are welcome to purchase store bought or any crust to your liking. I’m not a big fan of making my own crust as I have no patience of rolling out and getting flour everywhere so will probably purchase from a local place here that is amazing.

Expert Tips, Ingredient List and Suggestions for Recipe Success

  • Pizza crust-homemade or store bought
  •  lean ground beef – I normally use 80/20 when making recipes that call for ground beef.
  • green pepper – fresh or frozen will work
  • sweet or red onion – you can even use yellow or white. This is totally up to you.
  • shredded pizza cheese or mozzarella

Step by Step Directions

Step 1: Preheat oven to 450°F.

Step 2: Prepare pizza dough or store bought dough. I used this basic pizza dough recipe and brushed with olive oil and baked for about 10 minutes before adding my toppings. 

Step 3: In a non stick skillet, brown ground beef; drain fat if there is any.  Return beef to the skillet and add steak seasoning, and garlic powder.  Mix well, about 2 minutes. 

Step 4: Add peppers and onions, sauté 3 minutes and remove pan from heat.  

Step 5: Top crust with white garlic sauce (directions below), red pepper flakes, meat and vegetable mixture, and cheese. (in this order)

Step 6: Bake about 15-20 minutes, until crust is to your liking. 

Step 7: Slice pizza into 8 pieces and sprinkle with salt and pepper(if that is your thing)

White Garlic Sauce Directions

Step 1: Melt butter in a saucepan over low heat with garlic.

Step 2: Stir in flour and stir about 1 minute.

Step 3: Slowly whisk in milk stirring constantly. Mixture will thicken. Simmer about 5 minutes.

Step 4: Add garlic powder, and shredded parmesan cheese.

Step 5: Stir until cheese is melted. Make enough for one large pizza.

GROUND BEEF PIZZA

INGREDIENTS

  • 12lb lean ground beef
  • 1small onion, chopped
  • 3garlic cloves, minced
  • 12teaspoon dried oregano
  • 14teaspoon salt
  • 14teaspoon fresh black pepper
  • 1lb pizza dough (for 1 pizza)
  • 14cup pizza sauce
  • 34cup cheddar cheese, grated
  • 34cup mozzarella cheese, grate

DIRECTIONS

  • In a skillet, cook ground beef, onion, garlic, oregano, salt and pepper at medium-high heat, stirring from time to time, 3 to 5 minutes or until beef is no longer pink. Drain any fat. Set aside.
  • On a lightly floured surface, lower the dough in a circle of 12 inches of diameter. Put on a greased pizza plate. Spread sauce on the pizza dough. Garnish with beef preparation and sprinkle with cheddar and mozzarella cheeses. Cook on the lowest grill in a preheated oven of 500 F for about 10 minutes or until cheese is bubbling and crust is golden and slighly inflated.

Goodbye to restaurant style pizzas, I really mean it…

I made this pizza last night around 10pm. I had been roaming around with the recipe for making the perfect pizza crust for so long and the thought of topping the pizza crust with ground beef sauce triggered me last night all of a sudden. I had no other choice but to execute my idea. Each step I did with so much passion and waited so eagerly to have a bite of this pizza. As the pizza came out perfectly baked with a soft crust and the ground beef topping on it along with the melted golden cheese on it, the mere sight of it made me go wild. I screamed out of joy and I burned my tongue out of greed. I couldn’t stop admiring the pizza and today when I shared the pizza with my co-workers, they couldn’t stop admiring too.

I adopted the recipe for making the pizza crust from All recipes posted by Jason sharp, I cannot thank him enough for sharing this amazing recipe. After you try this, your search for the perfect pizza crust recipe will literally come to an end and you’ll stick to this recipe forever, I assure you that.

When it came to top the pizza crust, I went a little overboard and made ground beef sauce.Topped the crust with the ground beef and then with veggies, generously sprinkled mozzarella cheese and baked it in the oven for 20 minutes. For the entire 20 minutes, I literally peeped into the oven window and enjoyed the amazing show of crust puffing up, ground beef getting browned and the cheese getting melted, what a divine pleasure it was!!!

It’s homemade pizza, so women are going to like it. It’s topped with ground beef sauce, so men are going to love it. It has cheese on it, so kids are going to enjoy it of course in a messy way. After finishing up the pizza, everyone is going to go wild!!!

Ground beef pizza

Makes: 1 large pizza

Ingredients:

For making 1 large pizza crust:

  • All purpose flour- 2 cups + 1/6 cup
  • Dry active yeast- 1 1/8 tsp
  • Brown sugar or white sugar- 1/4 tsp
  • Warm water- 3/4 cup
  • Salt- 1/2 tsp
  • Olive oil- 1 tbsp

For making Ground beef sauce:

  • Oil- 1 tbsp
  • Ground beef- 1/2 pound
  • Ginger-garlic paste- 2 tsp
  • Chili powder- 1 tsp
  • Cumin powder- 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder- 1 tsp
  • Ground pepper- 1/4 tsp
  • Garam masala- 1/2 tsp
  • Tomato sauce, low sodium- 1 cup
  • Salt- to taste
  • Cilantro, chopped- 1 handful

Veggies:

  • Green pepper, chopped thin long- 1
  • Red onion, chopped thin long- 1
  • Ground pepper- 1/4 tsp
  • Salt- little
  • Tomato sauce- 2 tbsp

Other Ingredients:

  • Cilantro, chopped (optional)- to garnish
  • Mozzarella cheese, grated- generous amount to sprinkle on the pizza.

Instruction

  1. Have all the ingredients ready and let’s have some fun making homemade pizza.
  2. In a small bowl, combine yeast, warm water and sugar, let stand for 10 minutes.
  3. After 10 minutes, add the salt and oil to the yeast solution.
  4. In a large bowl, pour the yeast solution and slowly add the flour and knead.
  5. It will be sticky in the beginning, after you add the entire flour you’ll find it easy to knead.
  6. Knead the dough well, it should be soft and smooth, don’t add too much flour and make it into a hard dough.
  7. Place the dough in a bowl greased with oil and cover the dough with a damp towel, keep aside for 1 hour.
  8. Do not cover the dough with wet kitchen paper towels, after an hour it will be stuck to the dough and will be very hard to peel if off.
  9. In the meantime you could start making the topping and have everything ready.
  10. After an hour, the dough would have doubled in size.
  11. Combine the dough once again and let it sit for a minute.

Making the ground beef sauce:

  1. Heat a large pan over medium heat, add oil.
  2. Add the ground beef and break the lumps, cook till the pink color has changed.
  3. Add ginger-garlic paste to it and saute for a minute.
  4. Now, add chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, ground pepper and salt to it.
  5. Combine well and stir fry for a few minutes.
  6. Add tomato sauce and cook for a couple of minutes.
  7. Add chopped cilantro and combine to the sauce.
  8. Don’t cook till the liquid dries out, it should be have a thick sauce constituency.
  9. Transfer the ground beef sauce to a bowl and keep aside.
  10. In the same pan used for cooking the ground beef, add the chopped veggies (you could even use mushrooms, jalapeno etc).
  11. Add ground pepper and salt to it and saute the veggies for 2 minutes.
  12. Add the tomato sauce and combine with the veggies.
  13. Don’t over cook the veggies, it should be slightly tender, keep aside.

Rolling the pizza dough and topping it:

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 F or 220 C.
  2. Grease the pizza pan with little olive oil.
  3. Place the dough over it and using your hands you could stretch the dough to a round shape or use a rolling pin to roll it.
  4. After rolling it, let it stand for 15 minutes on the pan.
  5. Grate grate grate the cheese, gently down the grater 
  6. Spread the prepared ground beef sauce over the rolled dough evenly, top the veggies, sprinkle chopped cilantro and generously sprinkle mozzarella cheese over it.
  7. Bake for 20 minutes, keeping the pan on the lower rack of the oven until the cheese has melted and the curst has cooked well.
  8. Remove from the oven, slice it and indulge in it.

Tips:

  • While making ground beef sauce, you could season with your favorite seasonings and herbs.
  • Top with your favorite veggies as well.
