This is a favorite for any BBQ or Pot Luck. I’ve made this often when attending a family reunion where I have to travel. Why? Well, because it travels so well and I can throw it together quick and easily when I arrive!

Along the same type of Salad is also my other favorite, Pistachio Fluff Salad. When my boys were younger we called it Shreck Salad because it was green like Shreck and as you can imagine, they loved watching Shreck the movie.

Somehow it was affectionally named Shreck Salad in our home.

Both of these make excellent Summer Salads or Pot Luck Salads too. Never go empty handed to the neighborhood social. This is such an easy recipe!

Making Orange Fluff Jello Salad is super easy. The ingredients are fairly simple with a box of orange jello, a box of vanilla pudding, marshmallows, Mandarin Oranges and of course whipped topping.

Step by Step Instructions

  • Mix together the Orange Jello with water and allow the Jello to fully dissolve. Then let it cool for about 30 minutes in the Refrigerator.
  • Add small box of Vanilla Pudding and stir.
  • Add whipped topping, marshmallows and oranges.
  • Salad can be kept in refrigerator until ready to serve.

How to Make Orange Fluff Salad without Cottage Cheese

When I grew up it seemed everyone was putting Cottage Cheese in a Jello Salad.

Can we just STOP all ready? Ewww! It’s not good.

So let’s stop trying to make Jello Healthy. Let’s just let it be what it is, a tasty whipped fluff salad recipe that everyone calls a salad even though it’s more like a dessert recipe.

This recipe for Orange Fluff does not call for Cottage Cheese. You can of course serve Cottage Cheese on the side if you really really want to. 😉

We enjoy using Instant Pudding for it’s quick, fast and easy possibilities.

If we are making it to serve immediately we prefer using Instant Jello.

If we want to make it ahead of time and store in the refrigerator for a day or more, then using Cooked Pudding is ideal as it hold up better longer.

Can you Freeze Orange Fluff?

Yes, you can! However, this recipe has Jello in it and Freezing Jello will change the texture and consistency.

The Flavor will remain the same. So Freeze with caution. You may not like the consistency once it has thawed.

CAN I USE INSTANT PUDDING?

Pro Tip: We recommend only using Cook and Serve pudding with this sweet side dish. It doesn’t set up as well, stay together as long, or have quite as creamy of a texture if you use instant pudding.

CAN I MAKE THIS WITH SUGAR-FREE JELLO AND PUDDING?

We have never tried making this recipe with sugar-free jello or pudding, but according to some of our reader comments below, it will still work.

How far in advance can I make this recipe?

We would not recommend making this further in advance than the morning you’re planning on eating it. The mandarin oranges tend to release moisture the longer they are in the salad, so it starts getting runny after too long.

If you want to make it the day before, we would recommend just doing the first step of the recipe (mixing together the jello mix, pudding mix, and water and letting it set up in the fridge).

Do I prepare the jello or pudding mixture before adding them to the recipe?

No. The recipe requires just the mix (the powder packet) of both the Jello and the pudding. Do not prepare the jello or pudding as listed on their boxes.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 container (8 oz.) whipped topping, thawed
  • 1 small box (3 oz.) orange-flavored gelatin
  • 1 cup mini marshmallows
  • 1 can (11 oz.) mandarin oranges, drained
  • 1 can (8 oz.) pineapple, crushed, drained
  • Additional whipped topping, for garnish (optional)
  • Additional mandarin oranges, for garnish (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Place the whipped topping in a large bowl.
  2. Sprinkle the orange gelatin over the top of the whipped topping and stir until blended.
  3. Fold the oranges and pineapple into the whipped topping mixture.
  4. Stir in marshmallows.
  5. Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour before serving.
  6. Store leftovers in the refrigerator.
