Can you ever go wrong with seasoned ground beef for pizza? I don’t think so. It’s a go-to recipe that my entire family loves, including my two young daughters. This recipe makes about 6 large pizzas and it’s fairly simple to prepare. When you put this on a homemade pizza crust, it is definitely the star of the show.
Hamburger and Grape-Tomato Pizza

Ingredients
Ingredient Checklist
- 2 teaspoons vegetable oil, such as safflower
- All-purpose flour, for work surface
- 1 pound frozen pizza dough, thawed
- 3/4 cup store-bought marinara sauce
- 1 cup grated provolone cheese (4 ounces)
- 1 cup grape or cherry tomatoes, halved
- 1/2 medium red onion, thinly sliced (optional)
- 1/4 pound ground beef chuck
- Coarse salt and ground pepper
Directions
Instructions Checklist
- Step 1Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Rub a large rimless baking sheet (or a rimmed one, upside down) with oil.
- Step 2On a lightly floured work surface, use a rolling pin and your hands to roll and stretch dough into a 15-by-11-inch rectangle (if dough becomes too elastic to work with, let it rest a few minutes). Transfer to prepared sheet.
- Step 3Spread sauce evenly over dough, leaving a 1-inch border all around. Top with provolone, tomatoes, and if desired, onion; scatter beef over top. Season with salt and pepper.
- Step 4Bake until crust is golden, beef is cooked, and cheese is melted, about 20 minutes. Serve immediately.
Cook’s Notes
To ensure even cooking, gently roll and stretch the dough to an even thickness. You don’t have to shape it into a precise rectangle — rounded corners are fine.

Minced Beef Pizza
- PREP TIME: 45 MIN
- COOKING TIME: 25 MIN
- SERVINGS: 8 PORTIONS
This is a great way of making a little bit of mince go a long way. Use readymade pizza bases or pitta breads if you prefer.
Ingredients
- For the pizza bases:
- 450g strong white flour
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp sugar
- ½ sachet fast action yeast
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 250ml-300ml warm water
- For the topping:
- 400g lean minced lamb or beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed
- 3 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp paprika
- ½ tsp salt
- 4 tbsp tomato puree
- 2 tbsp tomato chutney
- 2 tbsp water
- 150g halloumi
- 2 tbsp each parsley and mint, chopped
- 2 ripe tomatoes, de-seeded and finely chopped
- To serve:
- 100g rocket
Instructions
- To make the pizza bases, combine the sugar, salt, flour, yeast and oil in a large bowl. Stir in sufficient warm water to form a soft dough. Turn onto a floured surface and knead, adding more flour if necessary, for about ten minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough into a clean greased bowl. Cover the dough with cling film and set aside in a warm place until it has approximately doubled in size.
- While the dough is rising, prepare the meat. Brown the mince in a hot saucepan or frying pan, pressing it with a fork or potato masher to create fine crumbs. Add the onion and garlic and cook until tender. Stir in the cumin, paprika and salt, then mix in the tomato paste, chutney and water and set aside.
- Pre-heat the oven to 200°C/400°F/gas mark 6. Divide the dough into 6-8 pieces and roll on a floured surface to desired size. Place onto greased baking trays and spread each pizza base with some of the lamb mixture, dividing it evenly. Sprinkle over the cheese and bake for 20 minutes or until risen and golden.
- To serve, sprinkle with the tomatoes and herbs.
