As a big fan of watermelon, I must say this watermelon feta salad with blueberries is on point. As this summer gets hotter and hotter, a refreshing summer side dish is a must!

My perfect summer cookout side dish spread includes this watermelon feta salad, bacon and blue cheese potato salad, and grilled peach and berry salad. It’s dreamy!

My family-approved watermelon blueberry feta salad is my absolute favorite summer salad for many reasons:

  • It’s refreshing and bright, perfect for summer!
  • Great flavor and texture contrast between the watermelon and feta!
  • Prep-ahead friendly! Chop and dice everything up in advance.

Step-by-Step Instructions

A Note on the Honey Lime Dressing

The dressing contains a little bit of olive oil for flavor and texture. It complements the feta cheese really well. A lot of people (including my mother!) think that olive oil and fruit don’t go together, but you’ll be surprised how good it is! You don’t need a lot, just 1 tablespoon of oil.

If you want to omit the olive oil, that’s completely fine too. Just use an additional tablespoon of fresh lime juice instead.

Add-ons and Variations

The great thing about this watermelon blueberry feta salad is that it is highly customizable. Here are a few of my favorite add-ons:

  • Cucumber
  • Strawberries
  • Arugula
  • Red onions (thinly sliced or pickled)
  • Nuts, pistachios, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds

Prep Ahead Tips

I would NOT recommend making the entire salad in advance, as the dressing will cause the watermelon to get soggy if stored.

Instead, prep all the ingredients in advance. The watermelon can be diced 1 day in advance (leave the mint and basil for last). The dressing can be made 1-3 days ahead. When ready to serve, toss everything together with the prepared dressing, plus fresh basil and mint.

Recipe FAQs

Can I cut the watermelon in advance?

Yes, 1-2 days in advance should be fine, but I always recommend doing it right before serving for best results. Store pre-diced watermelon in a large container, so it’s not all squished together.

Can I make the honey lime dressing in advance?

Yes, 2-3 days in advance.

Can I use frozen blueberries?

I’d recommend using fresh blueberries. Frozen blueberries will get soggy after they thaw.

How do I pick a sweet watermelon?

Find one that feels heavy for its size. When you tap it a few times, it should sound “hollow.” Also, watermelons that have a yellow spot tend to be sweeter.

Watermelon Feta Salad

There are some recipes I make and then forget all about them….not this one. In fact, my husband has been BEGGING me for weeks to PROMISE to make this Watermelon Salad recipe again.

Which is not a problem because I only got to take a few bites of this one before he devoured the whole bowl himself. And since it takes minutes to whip up (especially if you buy precut watermelon!!!) I don’t mind throwing it together on the regular.

This Watermelon Feta Salad recipe is made with just a handful of ingredients that are easy to find.

You will need:

  • Watermelon
  • English Cucumber
  • Blueberries
  • Feta
  • Basil

The Watermelon Salad dressing is made with just apple cider vinegar, honey, olive oil, salt and pepper.

The dressing isn’t absolutely necessary because this salad is amazing all on it’s own but it definitely pulls all the flavors together into one cohesive dish!

English Cucumber vs. Regular Cucumber

So, the English cucumber used in this recipe is the same variety you’ll find wrapped in plastic wrap at the store. They don’t have a waxy coating so there’s no need to peel them and the seeds are digestible so you won’t have to scoop them out.

Regular cucumbers have a tougher skin that’s coated with wax so they do need to be peeled and they have a ton of seeds. You would need to take the extra step to scoop them out.

What To Serve With It

I wanted to create a refreshing salad that would cool you off without the need for ice cubes. 🙂

Glasses of water and lemonade are helping a bit but when you want to EAT something….this Watermelon Feta Salad will totally be a hit with anyone that shovels it into their mouth. And believe me when I say….they will be shoveling.

Watermelon Blueberry Feta Salad

prep time:

Watermelon Blueberry Feta Salad is a unique combination that tastes amazing!  Watermelon, blueberries, mint, and feta in a lime vinaigrette.

  • 8 cups cubed watermelon
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 4 ounces feta cheese, diced
  • 1/4 cup chopped mint leaves (or basil)

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • salt to taste

  1. Add the watermelon, blueberries, feta, and mint to a large bowl.
  2. For the vinaigrette: Whisk together the olive oil, lime juice, honey, and add salt to taste.
  3. Drizzle over all the ingredients and toss gently. Serve immediately. The salad will give off liquid the longer it sits so it’s best to make right before serving.
